Hi all, Just found this site on the net while looking into setting up a new WIFI setup. I'm new to all this so apologies questions are obivous.

I've got 2 pc's and a xbox. I've recently upgraded my broadband to 8mb and want to set up a new wifi network with the following hardware:

NETGEAR DG834GT 108Mbps ADSL Wireless Router
Netgear WG311T 108Mbps Super G Wireless PCI Adapter
NETGEAR WGE111 54Mbps Wireless Game Adapter

Both machines to be fitted with super G PCI adapters. One machine is mainly used for surfing the net and email checking etc and the other is the heavy net user downloads, streaming videos etc. Finally the xbox with the game adapter so the it can talk to the pc. Both machines would be sharing data accross the network.

I would like to put just a tft in my spare room and make it be a secondary monitor from one of the other machines. Is there anyway of doing this over the wifi network e.g get a wifi connector for the vga or digital input?

In the future I want add a USB hard drive to the network

Does this kinda setup look ok?

Cheers
Nick

Nick, it alls sounds good with a couple of exceptions:

The Xbox doesn't talk to your PC -- the wireless connection onthe Xbox is only good for use with Xbox Live (the online service) or for doing direct connections between multiple Xbox for mutiplayer games.

There's not much on the market that would let you set up a flat panel monitor that far away from a PC... check out http://www.otcwireless.com/products/video.html tho, it might work for you.

Adding a USB hard drive later is pretty easy -- Linksys has a unit that plugs into your router and then connects to a Maxtor drive, that would do the trick. Simpler tho to just get an Ethernet drive and plug direct into the router -- that would be seen by all the computers on the network.

Good luck with it!

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for my late one. Just suffered a nasty system crash that left me locked out of my system for a week.

I Should have explained the xbox bit a little clearer, apologies. My xbox is chipped allowing FTP use e.g viewing pics and steaming videos etc from my pc. Will the NETGEAR WGE111 54Mbps Wireless Game Adapter be fast enough to do this? as I currently have them networked via cabled network and all works fine.

Thanks for the link. Checked it out and not really fast enough for what i need. Think it will be simpler to use the spare video out on my graphics card and have 2 monitors running of the same machine or get a media centre lol.

Just one last question before I buy the networking equipment. I've just signed up for a new broadband connection 8mb thankfully as im currently using a 56k dial up till its installed! anyway, A few people have told me that that wifi networks cant sustain top download speeds, 8mb in my case as wired networks can and that the routers over heat if a machine is continually downloading?

Cheers
