The Engenius CB3 is often mounted in the Rootenna for use as a CPE device.

I'm playing around with a CB3 as a CPE, and I can easily connect back to my AP. The CB3 also works as a great AP also.

When used as an AP, I can easily use my Orinoco Gold card to get an indication of the signal strength, signal to noise ratio, packets sent and lost, etc...both for the AP and my Orinoco card. Thats great.

But...

When the CB3 is used as a CPE, I naturally am not using my good client software that I used for my Orinoco card. So I don't have any software to show me the signgnal conditions like I did with my Orinoco card.

With the CB3 as a CPE device about all I can do is do continuous pings to at least see if the data is being sent and received back by my laptop.

The CB3 does have a real crude signal strength indication, in its set up screen, but I can't figure how to get it to refresh automatically.

I can get it to refresh manually if I keep rebooting the CB3, which seems to be the wrong way to get the signal strength to refresh. Other then that I can't find an easy manual way to refresh the signal strength of the CB3.

I would like to be able to change the Rootenna position for the strongest signal, but thats not all that easy with the CB3 (acting as a CPE) since it does such a lousy job at giving signal quality indications.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Thanks

You should really take a look at the new CB5 it has a wethertight enclosure and option for external antenna or built in directional.

It has superior managemnt via snmp, telnet and web with the same 200mW prism 2.5 radio.

They will be available in the next few weeks.

Hi keenan:

Does it have a feature that will have the CB5 easily tell me when I have the antenna pointed for best signal reception?

The 2611CB3+ Delux doesn't.

Yes it has snmp and telnet support so you can get instantaneous signal strength thought

The web based interface on the 26121cb3 only updates the signal strength a few times every minute making it hard to get a good directional reading.
