As I have gone around to do hotel WiFi proposals (about 40 now), I have noticed that some hotel owners just seem to disregard the High Speed Internet standards put in place by their head franchise organization.

That is they "play dumb" and act as though they don't understand what is required, or even if they clearly don't meet the standards, they say that they do meet the standards. Those hotel owners must think the franchise organizations who put these standards in place aren't going to check them. Choice is supposed to do compliance checks. I can guarantee that they will find many many non-compliant hotels when it comes to security. Some HSIA installers quote with non-VLAN switches in order to give the hotel owner a low price. And I know of one hotel owner in a town close by that uses APs that do not have client-to-client blocking for security.

If the hotel guests who use the hotel HSIA knew that the hotels have very lax Internet security, I'm sure they wouldn't want to use the Internet access at those hotels.

One hotel owner who has wired ethernet rooms, is only using a cheap hub for all the rooms...go figure. No help desk which is also required. He says someone from the franchise organization stayed at his hotel and that he was ok. I don't believe it, cause when I call the standards people at the franchise place, they say all their branded hotels are supposed to comply. So somebody is not telling the truth here. I believe it is the hotel owners not complying.

One large hotel I did an installation for, doesn't want to pay for the Help Desk that the franchise organization requires. The hotel says my installation is working so good, they don't feel that they need it.

I'm curious is any of you hotel WiFi installers have run into the same thing?

Thanks
