Hi all, I hope some knowledgable chap will be able to help me out with this one, nearly 2 days on it now and with all the how-to's i've read my ears are starting to bleed....

I have a PC and notebook both running windows xp pro. I recently purchased a netgear WGR614 wireless router. This wouldnt work with my current usb absl modem so ive instaled a adsl router, set it up as below

internet --phone cable--> ADSL router --RJ45--> Netgear router --RJ45--> pc

I can surf the net fine, in fact a little faster than before it seems, and when i turn on my notebook wireless settings it can surf the net fine also.

I want to be able to share files between the notebook and pc. I have run the network set up wizard and while i could see the notebook from the pc i couldnt see the pc from the notebook. Thinking it was something in the set up i ran the network set up wizard again, and now although i can see the workgroup name and even the workgroup computers (on both machines) i cant for the life of me get in. The error message has been the same all along, telling me i dont have permission. i have turned off my firewall (zonealarm) and disabled windows firewall also, but to no avail.

Any help anyone could give would stop a grown man crying.

ps if it helps at all i cant get port forwarding to work either......

Hello,
Assuming you are running WinXP on both machines, you need to make sure that the drives/files that you want to access are being shared. Go to the directory you want to share, right click, and go to sharing and security. Enable the options that you want. If you have done this, make sure that you have created a user on each machine that has read/write access to the directory you want to share. One question, when you try to access one machine, does it ask you for username/password?

Ok, thanks for replying..

I had a wired network between 2 computers that worked fine, no problem, I have tried unsharing and the sharing agin to see if that heped but nothing.....

i have 2 users on the laptop that have read /write. I have just a main account on the pc, no other users are set up, should i set up a user to match a user on the desktop?

This wouldnt be so annoying if it didnt work so well from the pc to the laptop.

Hello,
Could you send a little more info. Workgroup name, private IP address range etc...
Thanks
