As an AT&T CallVantage subscriber, I have found that the FAX feature is useless on the second line. Seems that they have a setting to give the fax line more bandwidth and they use a state-of-the-art LinkSys router with two phone lines. But the fax connections get dropped inbound and outbound.

I don't know if people have had similar experiences to mine. However, AT&T is advertising that the CallVantage system "works with most fax machines" and this does not appear to be true.

I received support from LinkSys stateing that it is AT&T's problmena and Hewlett Packard (my all-in-one 3200Se printer/Fax) noted that they are V34 compliant.

AT&T sent me a response that they are only V17 compliant and I should slow-down my fax machine. Of course you can't slow down most fax machines today, since that is automatic in the V34 standard and the HP fax machine has no DIP switches or software solutions to slow it down.

What happens is that the V17 signal cannot hand shake with the V34 command to slow it down and it creates a COM error.

I believe that AT&T should not advertise what they cannot deliver. Please note that Vontage would NOT guarantee me fax service and I went with AT&T based on their statements (published on their web page). I applaud Vontage for being honest and I can only say to AT&T -- "Shame on you" for false statements.

My advise in this area - BEWARE.
