I'm trying to troubleshoot my sister-in-law's computer. She gets Internet access through Verizon DSL and Linksys WRT54G wireless router. She has a wired connection for her PC and a wireless connection for her laptop.

Internet access had been working fine. All of a sudden it's not for both the PC and laptop. She can access a few sites ok (very few) but most sites she cannot access. For example, she can go to Google and get search results but can't access 90+% of the sites. In Firefox she gets "Waiting for server..." or "transferring data from...". She has same problem in IE. When I connected her PC to my cable modem and router Internet access worked fine. So, it seems like it would be a router problem--some sites go through but most don't.

I've tried releasing and renewing the IP address, powering off the dsl modem and router for 10-15 minutes, and reinstalling the network card in XP. I've looked at the IP config and router config and they seem ok.

I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any idea why she can access some sites but not (most) others?

Thanks in advance.

I actually just bought the same router Wednesday. I've not had any trouble with it at all so far...beats the crud out of the D-Link 624 I was using. Have the settings been customized beyond the basics needed to operate? Also, I know that if you use the install disk the router automatically sets its self based on your pc configuration. Could it possibly be some setting that was on the computer that just doesn't work well on the modem. Maybe DNS addresses? DNS would seem possible if your able to reach some sties but not others.
