Brute forcing WTR54G: username not required?

I was bored today and decided to try to brute force my WTR54g web console. What I found suprised me.

I authenticated with every username in my list as long as I used the correct password. I tried to change my username but could not find a setting in the web administration. Why would linksys not require a username?
