Hi All,

I wanted to know in a wireless AP if i can have an option of choosing between 802.11i or just plain 802.1X for authentication.

I feel that plain 802.1X(for authentication) wont work with wireless and the authentication has to be done thru 802.11i...

Can someone kindly throw more light on this???

802.1x will work with wireless and it's very secure if you have a server to authenticate users and a access point and client device that both supports 802.1x. WPA/PSK uses the same security methods without the added layer of authentication through the server.

802.11i will be virtually hack proof as it uses AES for encryption and a server for authentication. There are no known hacks against AES encryption.

Not all access points will support 802.11i though. AES encryption requires more resources within the device and you won't be able to apply a firmware upgrade to make it work. Most higher-end APs will support AES.
