Internet connection drops on and off repeatedly usually every 10-15 seconds or so ever since i added a WG511 56MBps Netgear pc card to use in my laptop at home. At home i'm using a SMC 11Mbps wireless router linked to some other laptops using 11b pc cards.
With the netgear 11g card hooked on the network, internet connection on other clients are also disrupted.

I was thinking, the netgear pc card would definitely auto revert its speed down to 11b if connected to the network, it has but causes those intermittent disconnections/reconnections.
Is it usually a problem if 11g clients are used on 11b routers? I thought it should be worry-free backward compatible?

You should only use g cards on G AP's. The b clients are backward compatible to G.

There is a different modulation scheme between 802.11G and B.

They process data differently to get the speeds.

The g card in the B environment is backwards. the g card will work eventually once it throttles down to the B modulation of the AP. Apparently it hoarks the other clients in the process.
