I'm just learning about VoIP. But I understand that once the VoIP call is on the Internet, if I want to call someone's home telco number, the call has to get from the Internet onto the regular wired phone line. And places like Vonage do that.

But what if I have my own lines I would like to use to couple from the Internet to the wired telco system?

We have five telco lines with unlimited long distance calling. Why couldn't I have a VoIP system at the office where it couples the landlines to the Internet through my VoIP system, just like Vonage does?

I could then be at home and use my VoIP system there to make calls which would go through my VoIP system into the landline at my office? I could call anywhere in the US using the unlimited long distance calling lines I'm already paying for.

Seems I would need not only the regular VoIP phone system, but also some kind of small system like Vonage uses to hook VoIP calls into the phone lines.

I'm real new to this VoIP stuff. Thanks for any info on how to accomplish this. Any companies you know of that sells the VoIP customer phones and the VoIP equipment that routes the calls from the Internet back into the land line?

Thank you much for your help

Bob,

That is correct. You could do this, but you need a Voip switch. They run from about $100,000 to $10,000,000 depending on capacity. I hope christmas is good for you and you get one, if not start saving now.

cisco
net.com
3com
and others sell the equipment

Hi wirelessoceans:

Wow.

I didn't know they cost so much.

Maybe we will have to stay with places like Vonage.

Thanks for the reply.

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Your helpfulness on this forum is appreciated...as is the helpfulness of everyone else.
