Equipment being used:
1) WCG200 Linksys router w/ cable modem
2) LINKSYS HGA7T RT High Gain atennas
3) Dell laptop with whatever internal wireless card they are using these days

I'm the "computer guy" at work, so my boss wants me to install his wifi network in his giant house. Its 4000 square feet, and there is "no budget" so I went ahead and bought the high gain antennas right away to give him a nice strong signal.

However, that may not be enough. He also wants it to extend to his backyard shed, which is about 80-100 ft away from his house. I just got the router and antennas in (to my house) today and went outside with my dell laptop w/ internal card, and i seemed to get a reasonable signal ~ 100 ft away. He will be indoors though.

What are my options if that doesn't work. Can i replace one of the antennas with a highly directional transmiter (yagi, or somthing with a nice clean package so it won't look ugly). It would be nice if we could keep the antenna inside the attic.

As far as placement of the router itself, my plan was to put it as near to the shed as possible (in the house), and as high as possible.

Also, If i set it to wireless-g only will that increase the range/SNR at all?

A couple of points.

Your would be better of useing a 200mW access point with stock 2dBi antenna to cover that area.

You might find that useing a high gain omni antenna will not cover both floors because it is sending you signal out and not up or down.

You can not replace one antenna with another type to cover more area they are for diversity

You could use another access point on a non overlapping channel with directional patch antenna pointed at the shead.

Setting the access point to g only will reduce the range
