There are many bluetooth headset gadgets but I've not found a wifi headset that, for example, can connect to a computer/PDA/or other wifi device.
Does anyone knows something about it?

One of the reasons is because of the relatively high current consumption of WiFi devices - may change in the future as a lot of effort is spend on this issue.

Have you found anything yet? We are also investigating and in the process of developing one. Current consumption is an issue but one that can be overcome.

There is some reasons by there is not wi-fi headset.
- cost, cost of wifi-headset probably won't much cheaper than a wifi phone.. so why bother to have wifi-headset, why not wifi phone.
- traffic needs to go through access point if connection is infrastructure mode, ap may not be always available and some ap need register for you to connect to it
- adhoc mode definited in 802.11 does not support mulit-hop, i.e. if you computer is connected to your wifi-headset with adhoc mode, your computer cannot communicate with the AP

I agree with Ed, I really dont see any advantage in using WiFi for a headset. There are already a ton of solutions that fit every category from gaming to avaiation so I doubt that we'll see any vendors investing in a wifi headset solution.

hello all new here
Iam also interested in wifi headsets
i am currently thinking about VoWLAN to run on WVPAN PTT or Peer to Peer
I have come across a new wifi chip that works very close to bluetooth power use?

I second the motion. I don't find a need for a wifi headset There's already bluetooth for this function or a wireless headset just like a wireless mouse but not WIFI.

Hi ! I registered just to answer your question : Is there a use for WiFi Headset ?
The answer is YES !!! :D
Let me explain :
1 - Gaming headsets are on analog 2.4Ghz usually, or other crowded frequencies and there is always interference and static. Also : anyone can listen to your conversation on a scanner.
2 - If they are Bluetooth : the sound quality is really poor for music.:(
3 - WiFi range is way better than Bluetooth.:p
4 - Response time on a WiFi network is great !
On the other side : i dont mind putting it down on its charging station, after "only" 3 hours of gaming / talking, because of the "poor" battery life because of WiFi power consuption.
It is also true that it would need WiFi configuration, probably with USB connection and a small software, to enter the WPA2 network key. But that is not really a downside... It is actually normal and comforting : that means that your conversations are truly Private.
I would also use that headset for listening to Music and Talk on the Phone (I have True Software phone : not just Skype).
There ! :) Anyone disagree :D
Cheers !
