I would like to setup up a WLAN in my house so I can use my PDA back yard, living room, kitchen, etc. However, I have an internal DSL modem. Is there a way to hook up a wireless router with the following hardward setup: signal, modem, pc, router vs. the standard of signal, modem, router, pc?

Thanks,

Kevin:confused:

I think there are different ways to do so depending on the specific WiFi hardware you have. I have 3Com OfficeConnect Router and 2 USB adapters. The wired PC I connected to router using a standard (wired) Local Area Connection. Another 2 PCs are wirelessly connected to the router and to each other by means of the WiFi USB adapters.
I guess the same result would be achieved without a router by using just 3 adapters (but I did not try).

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that maybe I could use the LAN card on my PC to get connectivity to the wireless router. Do you think this is possible?

Sorry Kevin for my English! This is exactly what I ment by wired Local Area Connection. I just connected the router and the wired PC using the LAN card in my PC.
Good luck.
Mark.

One more comment. Saying all three PCs are wirelessly connected I am not entirely accurate. I do experience problem of sharing files in my wired PC. So, at the moment I've solved only the problem of connecting to the Internet. However I am not completely satisfied with the latter too. First, my wired PC must be always on. Second, one of my wireless PC connects to the Internet only via another wireless PC. So, in fact all 3 PCs should be on (and connected to the Internet), if I want to use any of them. Probably, 3 adapters would be better. But I am considering to get an external modem instead.

That makes sense....I keep my desktop on all the time anyway so for my purpose of being able to access the internet I think a wireless router wired to my desktop would work out.

Thanks for all the help.
