I've setup a HP ProCurve 420 that has a bizarre config that appears to require you to enter both a PSK for WPA and a WEP Key. It was my understanding that if your using WPA-PSK the wep key was no longer needed, even tho WPA still uses the WEP encryption algorithms? Please correct me if i'm wrong.
I have also noticed that this will work for a short period of time, 24 hours max, then fail with a 4-Way handshake failure. what is the 4-way handshake, where can i find more information so i can try and isolate what is causing this?

A 4 way handshake is a RTS - CTS - Data _ACK
In other words it sounds like you are configured to use Request to Send -------Clear to Send OR you going above the Data Threshold where RTS CTS clicks in. RTS CTS is not normally use because of the overhead, but in the case of hidden nodes sometimes it is used,
Usuall this is a editable driver config, Go to device manager, find your device and check properties.........if RTS is enabled, disable it,
if its not enabled increase the threshold at which it kicks in.
Not sure about your wep wpa setup

BTW
where does the key in WPA derived?
is it from the AP or from RADIUS server sent by EAPOL packet?

Thanks for that, that makes most sense however neither the WAP or the NIC has any reference to RTS / CTS apart from RTS Threshold which is set to 2347 (The Maximum).

It's using PSK

Just an FYI, on my Ap RTS CTS is called CTS Protection Mode and is off by default..........

Still works today tho, 24 hours later.

Do we still have to insert password like with WPA-PSK in WPA EAP With TLS ?
