Hey, unfortunately, the reply to my Wimax Question was deleted...

It was a great reply covering 9 points as to why WiMax may not work for the future... BUT now it has been deleted, probably because WiFIPlanet did not want people going to my site Wimaxxed.com ??

Would like to get that reply back...

was at: http://forums.wi-fiplanet.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=17037#post17037

So I can post it on my site. And contact the guy who replied... Please write back again.

Unfortunatly that was off the cuff and I don't have that information. Although I'm sure I could reproduce it.

Planet send we the post if you could please.

I would be interested in debating the topic my email is rick@wirelessoceans.com

Have a nice day

Roger,
Yes I beg to differ that Wi-Max will be as impressive as you think. Here are my reason, maybe I'm misinformed and if so please let me know.

1) OFDM NLOS equipment already exsists in the 5GHz range and has been available for some time now. Hasn't been a "web channging event" yet.

2) Wi-Max will only be used as carrier class backhaul for the first few years helping solve the "last mile" solution. Many other solutions exist for this problem, people have invested big money in these solutions and they are not going to jump over to an unlicensed band. Not to mention the progression of cable and phone companies in lighting up the existing dark fiber.

3) The claims of NLOS (NON line of Sight as opposed to NEAR-LOS) made by Wi-Max proponents do not match the actual results of the technology.

4) Increasing crowding of the 5GHz band is only going to increase with Wi-Max. Eventually it will be like 2.4GHz

5) Client devices (ie PCMCIA cards) will not be available for a few years.

6) Emerging satellite technology will offer bandwidth for competitive prices and will captire a large portion of the market share that fixed wireless is attacking.

7) Many companies are buying spectrum licenses that can offer high troughput to mobile users and are true NLOS (ie. EVDO form Verison, 3.5GHz from Clearwire, and emerging 4G technology)

8) The slow adaptation of the general population to new technology (look how long wi-fi has taken to become popular...lets say 5 years since there was widly available equipment and advertisement)

9) The price of CPE is a major factor in the rate of acceptance for residential WISP service. Wi-Max CPE will be very expensive when companred to current 2.4GHz equipment and will price itself out of the consumer market place in rural and suburban WISP settings.

Thats a good start....

Nice web site, this article that was just published on your site and seems to have some similarities to my rant...hmmmm...I guess I'm not the only one, but its great to see that you are fair and balanced.
