Same Equipment?

noob question...

With the current implementation of 802.16, will you need to upgrade your equipment when the revision comes out in a couple years to do the mobile 802.16?

and to what extent, will it be a firmware upgrade, or new equipment all together?

any insight is greatly appreciated!

You will need completly differnet equipment. That is probably at least one year if not two down the road. Also as far mobile wimax applications it is at least two years off. The main focus now is on "last mile" solutions which bring fiber netwroks, which exist in most major cities, to companies without having to trench fiber to their doors. Also it attempts to address the line of sight LOS issue that wi-fi does not overcome. The main differnce is in antenna techologies and data packet handling, but it is still license free in the 5Ghz spectrum and will being to crowd that spectrum like wi-fi has crowded the 2.4 ghz band.
