ok to make a long story short..my dad setup a network with our high speed internet. since i live in the furthest part of the house, i got a linksys wireless network card so i can utilize the internet in my room. so anyways..i installed the drivers, turn the computer on, and it detects a connection. out of 5 bars though, it only has 2, but isnt 2 enough to at least search online? well so im connected (or so i think), but when i click on my browser..it just says 'detecting proxy settings' and after a while goes to 'done' and a window pops up saying 'could not open search page'. my dad is on a business trip and i dont know jack about computers really..so im wondering how can i use the internet? i messed with some options in IE and in the network settings..but couldnt get anything to work. any help is grealy appreciated.

Basically you are connected to the AP at layer two of the OSI model. You need to be at layer three also to get internet connectivity.

Layer three is your IP settings, DHCP, gateway, WEP key, stuff like that..

See you just learned to troubleshoot..you have connectivity to the radio because you get two bars, probably not great, but functional.

But there is no network connectivity.

Try re-typing your WEP key( biggest most common mistake) and see if that works ...if not, then check your IP settings

start / run / cmd/ type 'ipconfig' without the quotes and see what pops up...
