i need to get a wireless signal available around my yard which is very big maybe 1.5 acers.
I'm thinking of a omni-directional antenna mounted on the roof hooked to the antenna out on a d-link wireless broadband router.
Let me know if that would work? How strong the antenna would have to be (i.e. 5dBi) and where i could get it for a good price.

You need a powerful AP (200mw) and at least 8dbi onmi (fab-corp.com). Make sure the antenna is as close to the AP as possible. That should do it.

could i just hook an antenna to the wireless router to replace the antenna or would it still be better to get a high powered AP. http://fab-corp.com/ would the antenna on this site work. I know a friend that said he would get me one jsut like that for $50
does anybody by anychance know whould i would need to build a comoputer specifically for digital audio recording i.e. motherboard, memory,...

A crappy 30-milliwatt AP with a 6-dbi antenna would cover your 1.5 acre yard if the antenna was properly placed and oriented. I speak from experience.

A cisco 1200 would cover that area.
