Newbie...need help

Hi, I just purchased a Compaq laptop with integrated wireless LAN and when it connects to a wireless network, it says signal strength is excellent. How do i get internet explorer to work after, since im connected to a network because it is not working, nor windows messenger. I just need some help getting internet started when im connected to a wireless network. Thank you.

Check and see if you are receiving an ip address. "ipconfig" If someone is using access control you will be able to "connect" to the AP but will not receive an IP address if your not listed in the Access list.
