Toshiba Portege 3440CT laptop
Win 98 SE
DLink DWL-650+ PCMCIA card
Into US Robotics WAP 2249

If the DLink PCMCIA unit is inserted when the PC is already running it sets up OK and works fine.

If it is already plugged in the PC when started up it initially sets up OK then towards the end of the boot process suddenly drops out.

However once the PC is running I can go to Start – Control panel – Network then click OK and exit. (No network parameters changed) Once done the DLink unit then starts up and operates.
How and why does this happen? Anyone come across this problem?

If this process has to be performed each time I would ideally like some Desktop icon to provide the function. Is it possible to set it up?
Thanks

Hey I guess you are running into a bios or driver issue.
Try upgrading the drivers for the card from the vendor & see if that fixes it.
If not ask your laptop vendor this is a starting problem when u r laptop boots up the bios startup for the card is experiencing a delay/does not startup. And you can't have an icon to redetect it everytime so it's pretty much software specific. JUst in case u might wanna try it on a different laptop/os
