Hi, I am a first time forum user! so be patient!
I have just purchased a "top" computer from aldi's it is this weeks best deal. It is a Gericom "ego" machine.
The problem I am having is being unable to connect to the internet using the onboard, intel pro/wireless 2200 bg network connection.
They are said to be simple, (yeah right) I have tried every possible way to connect, I even rang intel who could not help, any ideas would be thankfully received . Incidently I am connecting to a bt voyager 2000 wireless network, which is compatible, I also use another laptop with a prism wireless card, and a desktop, they both work fine, heeeelllllllllllllppppppppppppppp.

I know it sounds stupid but did you check to see if there is an actual switch to turn on the Wireless. Some computers have one, Otherwise have you right clicked on the wireless icon and set up the SSID Name?

First go to Start/Programs and look for Intel Proset. From there go the the "General" tab and look to see if the radio button for "Radio Enabled" is activated.

The Intel ProSet wireless card is buggy and frequently turns itself off for no reason. Be sure the next button down is also activated "Radio" "ON".

If that doesn't work and you don't want to pay for service, then just buy a cheap PCMCIA wireless card (some are $20US) and you'll be a lot happier.

There are multiple conflicts with the installed card and Windows XP and I won't try to cover any of those issues here, so the quick workaround is just getting a separate card, and disabling the on board one. Don't bother with the INtel website, there is NO useful information there except for total morons.

Hope this helps, WT
