I'm having a frustrating time trying to install a WAG54G wireless router. The router is installed and connects to the Broadband connection with no problems. I have 2x Desktop machines running XP Home and 2x laptops running XPPro. All of the machines have Linksys 802.11g cards. First off the setup cds don't run properly so I have to load the drivers by pointing at the cd. I have WEP turned off as I just want it to work first.

When the desktops are physically attached via LAN it gets an IP via dhcp with no problems. However they struggle over the wireless link. Static addresses work fine. Repairing fails also.

Everytime I try to use DHCP it appears to timeout and then uses the XP default address.

Any ideas of what to look at would be great. thanks.

cheers
Lee

What does Linksys tech support say? did you talk to them? It sounds like your wireless cards are not right...

Tried Linksys but didn't get any reply. Funnily enough I am having the sam eproblem with a Belkin router with a Motorola card. It works great with 802.11b but won't work at all with g.

Actually I should say it didn't work. I read somewhere that Belkin recommend that you use Channel 6 and change the SSID. I have done that and it all works fine now. I don't understand why the defaults didn't work but don't really care now. I will try doing the same with the other Linksys problem router.
