Hello, I'm a newbie to wireless networking and networking in general. I have a basic idea of how it works but would like to be talked to like I know nothing just to be safe :) I want to set up an office with 5-8 PC's all sharing a wireless connection. Here are my questions:
1. What type of machine should I use for a server?
2. The server I assume would be the access point if I understand it correctly, so it would be the only one with a direct connection to the internet. What type of internet access should I get (DSL, T1, etc.)
3. Where does the router fit in to this equation?
4. What hardware/software do the PC's connecting to the wireless network need (mostly desktops, and several laptops)
5. What type of software (OS) should I be running?
6. What would be the price tag for setting up the wireless network? (not including the server, just the wireless networking components itself)
I appreciate any help I can get with this. At the very least, a ballpark figure for the price of setting up the wireless network for a small business of 5-8 PCs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
