Hello,

I am in dire straits. I just purchased a d link wireless router and trying to connect it to my sbcglobal dsl. I can ping the router from my pc, but it is not allowing me to access any webpages. I am sure there is something in the settings that I am missing.

The reason I purchased the wireless router is to connect to the internet from my ipaq h1935 pocket pc (I also have the sandisk connect wi-fi card) needless to say, I am getting a strong signal from my pocket pc, but it is not allowing me to access any webpages either.

Could anyone enlighten me on what it is I might be missing? I have gone over the manual over and over again and I am just about at wits end with the whole thing.

I hear that purchasing the d link was not a smart move and I should have followed my first mind and went with the linksys.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

ok,
let me give u some hints..:)):
1. try to see if u can ping a remote host name:
ping 4.2.2.2 and see if u get any result
if u get result and u sont lose any pockets and u still cant conect to the internet probably u dont have DNS server set up
go do a ipconfig /all
and u will see there all the data u need: IP adrress, Default Gateway, Subnet Mask, DNS Server....

2. go to: support.dlink.com/products clink on the router that u bought, probably u got a 6 series or 7 and click on it and u will have there all the info that u need.
Very very very important: check the FAQ's that are on the site...

3. dlink products are preaty good, u just have to configure them ok...

good luck, and tell me if u solved the problem, if not, please give me more details: what DI-xxx, what steps did u do, what ipconfig /all gives u, what ping 4.2.2.2 gives u.

You may already have solved your problem, but one solution (that I had to use) might be that the IP addresses of the router and DSL modem are identical, causing clashes. I had to change the IP address of the router (after helpful suggestions from D-Link)

yes lwolv, u are right,
it happens that the stupid DSL modem(or a modem/router) use 192.168.0.1 or 172.16.0.x...
so usually, DLink router comes with default IP address 192.168.0.1
and from here the conflicts begin.
to be sure u have no conflicts..u can chose the othe private address class, class A: 10.x.x.x

hope that helps
