Is anyone familiar with this equipment:

http://motorola.canopywireless.com/prod_specs.php

My queries are:

- This appears to be propriatary wireless communication. It does not use a recognised standard. Is that correct?

- What level of security does it provide? Is it secure to use in an area where others (non approved) could easily receive the signal (I am not so concerned with monitoring of data, but the ability to break in and abuse the internet service which would be linked to it).

Any feedback or other comments appreciated.

Yes it is a propriatary scheme. It does use the unlicensed bands. You can get any version of security you wish. Ranging from WPA to 3DES, all the way to AES FIPS.

Using the BAM (Bandwidth Allocation Moduale ) software, only units listed on the servers list can gain access to the units. The Motorola Canopy web site has many pages devoted to security questions like this one.

We are an authorized Canopy ACSP for the Washington DC area in the US. Call us with any questions you might have.
