I'm attempting to optimise the access points for a school here in the UK (so can't afford professional support!) and am having trouble with some access points.

We're using 802.11g and LevelOne WAP0003 access points. These all work fine when you log into them remotely to set them up and all the settings are identical, bar the channel numbers to prevent interference.

To troubleshoot i've been using a laptop with an 802.11g card. Combined with the freeware NetStumbler 0.4.0 I can measure signal strengths and make decisions about power outputs etc of APs.

However, some APs do not show up for NetStumbler. This is limited to those access points with their channels set to 12 or 13. While they communicate with the LAN effectively, they do not recieve any WAN packets. As far as I can tell there is no obvious site-wide interference at these specific frequencies.

Does anyone know a reason for the channels not to work? My only theories so far are:

1) some interference source is preventing their functioning at ch 12 and 13 freqs though this seems unlikely given there is no detection when the client is physically next to the AP!

2) NetStumbler is not configured to detect channels 12 and 13 as it might be a US package where the channels are outside regulation anyway (though this also seems unlikely since the laptop doesn't let me access the network, internet etc either).

3) The APs cannot operate on 12 or 13 despite the firmware coping with it.

Please help! :)

Many thanks for taking the time

I think theories number two and three are most likely.
I don't have a solution though...
