Ok, here's one for you repeater / bridge gurus. We're looking at offering wi-fi on our golf course. And I do mean out on the course. We have 27 holes, divided into three nine-hole courses. Attached is a map of the course.
We plan to try to build a protoype on just one of the nine-hole segments, specifically the nine-hole segment in the upper left corner of the attached image. The area you are looking at is roughly 1500 Yards (4500 feet) long by about 500 Yards (1500 feet) wide. We have broadband at the club house (just below the practice range in the image). Saturation on the net would probably be low due to limited number of users, and even if we could get sub-1 megabit per second performance out on the course it would be fantastic. You can make an assumption that we can get power to the repeaters, bridges, whatever (even though I haven't figured that out yet either! Solar ?!?!?)

Many thanks!

It might be obvious to the golfers in the forum, but the areas size I listed as 1500 yards long by 500 yards wide is just for that 9-hole segment we want to prototype.

tnx!

Solar works good! I have a photo of a similar setup. I am not an electrician but every electrician that has seen it has told me exactly what was going on, so they can figure it out

Use AP's with directional antennas (outdoor) crossover cabled in to bridges pointing to the main hub.

I think enterasys makes a box that does this for you...

This post is alittle late but from looking at that photo doesn't look like you have too many obstructions, e.g. trees, on that upper left course. Also assuming the course is relatively flat and even it it isn't no big deal. You could probably could hook up a couple of AP's onto a tall pole with a panel/sector antenna to extend the range. If you had the AP's close enough to the club house I would just use POE (power over ethernet) and run power through that. A lot easier and cheaper to run cat5 than it is to run a dedicated power souce.

On the other end, you could attach an omni antenna onto the golf carts which could be attached to a wireless router/repeater that a golfer would then connect into with a laptop or pda either wirelessly or through a rj-45 port. Powering that up would be a little bit trickier but i'm think'n you could attach some type of UPS or battery backs that are connected to solar powered trickle chargers to keep the batteries alive.

Of course the obvious thing is I assumed everyone on this golf course would be driving golf carts and not doing any walking. ;-)

What is their budget for this project? There's a nice solution that will do the job perfectly for less than $25000.
