Is there a way to make a access point using a NIC card and a wireless adapter running windows? I was told no as most of the cards are client only cards. I did read on the net about making an access point using Linux and changing the firmware of the card. I know I could just buy one but that's no fun in learning how to make stuff work. I was going to give up on this idea. I went to CompUSA looking around and found a Toshiba WRC-1000 802.11b wireless router for $20 on sale and thought I could use as an AP for my basement apt. Couldn't get in to the setup without plugging it in my cable modem. When I pluged it into my network using the linksys router LAN port I could access the internet with my laptop but couldn't access the wireless router to change the settings. Short story.
I open the router and found a prism 2.5 mini pci card in side
with 2 antennas connectors. Could I use a linksys WMP11 pci adapter and change the mini pci card with the one from the wireless router to build a Access point?
http://www.bawug.org/images/equipment/linksys/wmp11/ (found this looking for an adapter)
Thanks for any help
Steve
