Hi,
I know that B mode slow down a G network 'mixed in my case thru a Netgear DG834G). But is it the case also if the B is not activ ?
I want to buy the new HP Wi-Fi printer (mod B), and I wonder if, even if I do not print, it will slow down my G network ?
Cheers.

short answer yes.
If a 802.11g access point is in b/g mode there is added overhead.
If your 802.11b print server is turned on and associated to the access point the performance is effected even more.

Thanks,
So, adding all those device having B standard, even if B is enough for what they do (streaming audio, printing ....) are NOT a good idea for G network ! ? !
Anyone know a Wi-Fi G printer ?
Cheers.

It is best to have 2 access points on non overlapping channels your low speed devices like printers laptops surfing the internet etc can use the b network.
And whatever application requires the higher bandwidth of the g only network will get it.
