Is it possible to use a wireless router as an access point? Basically when I go away to school I know that we need to bring a hub with us to split the internet access between two roommates. I would also like to have a wireless connection and I was wondering if a using a wireless router in place of a hub would work. I know I can just get a hub and a wireless acess point, but I'm trying to cut down the equipment.

One of the computers will be hooking into the Broadband line through a CAT 5 cable, the other I want to be wireless. Basically I'm wanting to uplink a router to a router, I'm assuming the second router will be a slave to the first and only act as an access point but I just want to be sure.

Thanks.

Sure it's possible. I have a Dlink router that is not doing any routing at all. Just disable the DHCP server and plug your ethernet connection into one of the switch ports. In most routers that should be all it takes. Then you have how ever many wireless ports your router supports plus the number of switch ports -1 for wired access.

From what I understand on this board if you are going to buy something then it is better to buy an AP as apparently they are more fully featured, but when I bought mine price was the key factor and the router was cheaper than any AP.

Again, yes, I only have one router, but I'm basically using it as a wired and wireless switch.

Sweet man thanks, just what I wanted to hear. I was just looking to save a few bucks, I have a wireless router already and I really didn't want to have to go out and buy a switch and an access point too.
