I want to buy a good inexpensive AP for my small home LAN (1 FreeBSD-server, 1 Win2k-laptop, 2 Win2k-PCs).

After some evaluation I came across these three products:

Orinoco AP200 (maybe AP500)
SMC 2655W
Linksys WAP11

-they look pretty good to me.

I've got some questions about them:
I'm concerned which one of those might work best wired to my FreeBSD-server - is it possible to administrate any AP from a *nix-machine?
I heard some of them have fancy javascript/cookie-Admin-tools... or can I administrate the AP wireless from a Windows-PC, right out-of-the-box?

Second important point is signal strength - which of those APs reaches best through 2 walls?

Thanks for your help!

I can not really help on this one that much. However I have used both the Orinoco AP200 and the Linksys WAP11. The WAP11 was such a nightmare I threw it on my workbench and hit it with a sledgehammer destroying it. I have been nothing but happy with the Orinoco.

The problem with the WAP11 was it would not communicate with other brand wireless equipment... or would do it very badly. I would not recommend it unless you will run your entire network with Linksys.
