Hi members,

I've set up my 802.11g wireless connection using a US Robotics PC Card (model 5410) and a Wireless Access Point and Router (model 8054). I get a strong signal and have no difficulties browsing web pages except when opening e-mail accounts in both Hotmail and Yahoo. Regardless of what hour of day or night I try, the furthest I get is the sign in page. I enter my user id and password and the page freezes; I can get no further. The connection is fine because I can surf another website immediately. The likelihood of both Yahoo and Hotmail being down is zero because I double check using a hardline connection and I have no problems accessing e-mail. So, why is this happening? Is there a way to correct the problem?

Thanks...

Welcome to the forum. Are you using PPPoE? Go into the 8054 and find out where the MTU is configured.

The correct MTU (maximum transfer units) setting for PPPoE is 1492. This is because there is an 8-byte "wrapper" to make the PPP packet "look like" an Ethernet packet to the network card. An MTU setting of 1500 will slow transfers substantially due to packet-fragment resends.

Thanks for the quick response. My ISP connection is PPPoE. I'll try re-setting the MTU setting as you suggested.
