I'm really hoping someone can assist me here...

I have a Netgear MR814v2 Wireless Router set up, and two machines connected to it. Both machines are experiencing the same issue where the signal continuously goes from 95-100% to 0, then back to 95. I have tried changing channels, and repositioning the router, but to no avail. As far as Internet usage is concerned, it is tolorable because it is almost transparent. The biggest annoyance is that I keep getting "Network Cable Unplugged" popping up on my screen. If anyone has a suggestion as to how I can remedy this, or even just keep that message from popping up, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum. You need to give some more details. It is the only way we can help. What are the operating systems? What are the computers? What are the wireless client devices? Do you have any other wireless or RF sources in the vicinity, like cordless phones? Are the machine connected via wired or wireless? Do the PC's have Ethernet cards in them and where they in use at one time?

One quick thought is if you indeed had a wired connection setup at one time, the computer is trying to find it and will flash that message until you disable the connection.

Both PC's are running Win 2k, both are wireless, and both are using the same model PCI adaptor - TRENDnet TEW-223PI - which I have tried at another location without incident.

Both PC's were once hard wired to the same router using onboard ethernet, which I have disabled (via system tools, not bios).

There are no other RF devices close. The router is one floor away from the PC's, but was behaving the same when hooked up right next to them.

Not sure what you meant by system tools, but I assume that they are disabled when you look in the device manager? Also, I meant the network connections. Right click on Network Places, go to properties and disable the unused connection.

One other possibility now is that you are using different vendors for equipment. Is WEP enabled? If so try it without or at a different encryption bit size.

You are correct in your assumption, they are disabled in device manager. And I am not using WEP at all...

OK, that rules out many things. I want to make sure I understand correctly. You are able to access the Internet from both computers and the only problem is the drops and the message popping up? I would have a hard time believing that both PCI cards are bad. And you mentioned that you checked them both out at another location? If so, I would begin to suspect the router. Does it have the latest firmware update?

Also, I really would like to know if the network connection is removed or disabled for the wired adaptor. It is in network places not device manager. If the is still active it might be sending that error message.

The router is current on firmware. That was the first thing I did once I too started to suspect it as being the culprit.

And yes, the other network devices are indeed disabled.
