M/Q 04-09-2004, 10:38 AM You did not mention model of the routers in use, so it is hard to determine if they have the ability to repeat. In many cases a router will not repeat, a WAP is required. It will be part of the confuguration utility if it is set up to repeat. Also in almost all cases that is the worst way to extend your range. It reduces bandwidth and requires at least 50% overlap of the coverage area to even work at all. jrz101 04-09-2004, 10:40 AM Sorry had a blonde moment there.... They are4 (2) US Robotics 8054G M/Q 04-09-2004, 11:00 AM I was not able to see anywhere that that specific router has the ability to repeat. they advertise that their WAPs repeat though. So I assume that the routers do not have that feature which is common in the industry. http://www.usr.com/products/networking/wireless-product.asp?type=features&sku=USR5450 jrz101 04-09-2004, 01:53 PM Could anyone please tell me then which WAP will work with my US Robotics 8054G Wireless Routers and what store I can find it at???? Thank you! jrz101 04-09-2004, 02:09 PM Here is my config.... At home 8054G wireless with a Cantenna beaming the signal 1/2 block to my firehouse. At firehouse have another 8054G wireless router. If I put a WAP in between, will the 8054G at firehouse pick up signal and allow more than one laptop to connect via wireless cards??? M/Q 04-09-2004, 03:33 PM What do you plan to have in the firehouse? Wired or wireless service. DO you have clear line of sight to the firehouse? In order for this to work in the best possible fashion you should have two devices acting as a bridge link between your house and the firehouse. You can use two WAPs or two bridges. This is how I would do it. I would connect one WAP (set up as a bridge node) to the wired switch portion of the router at your house , have the cantenna on it pointed at the firehouse. Get another WAP (again setup as a bridge node) at the firehouse with the same kind of antenna pointed back at the house. Then have that WAP wired to what ever kind of network you want in the firehouse, whether it will be a wired or wireless network. Please just make sure that the bridge nodes (WAPs) are on one non-interfering channel like eleven and then the router in your house and whatever you have in the firehouse is on the other non-interfering channel like channel one. jrz101 04-10-2004, 03:21 PM Bought a D-Link DWL-800AP repeater/WAP and it worked like a charm! Didn't even need my other router for more than one wireless to get online! Thanx for all your help!;) wi-fiplanet.com
