If the router and WAP are from the same manufacturor, there is a good chance that they have the same initial IP address for setting up. Unplug the WAP from the router and connect the computer directly to the WAP via the CAT5 cable and then try the address. It should work then, make sure to change its IP address to maybe one number up from the existing one so the router and WAP will not be in conflict.

If they have the same initial setup IP address, that is the only way to get it configured. Just bring the WAP to the desktop and plug it it. It does not have to be in its fianl location. You are just going to configure the device

So, now can you get into each nodes configuration utility and setup the SSID, channel and all the other setups? If so, then you just make everything the same, except have the two devices on different channels like one and eleven, so that they do not interfere.

That should be it, unless there is another problem, that you did not mention in the first post.

So are you saying that you can not access the WAP wirelessly? Do you have the pc client and WAP configured the same? I would like to know model numbers as I am still not clear as to what the problem is.

You have a router that has a WAN port that is connected to the Internet. you then have a pc wired into the switch portion of that same router. You also have a WAP wired into the switch portion of the router and you can not access the network from the upstairs pc. Where is the WAP in relation to the upstairs pc?

Ok, the main PC is downstairs in my office, its plugged into a 4-port router via the CAT5 cable. The router is plugged into the DSL. Also plugged into the router via CAT5 cable is a wireless AP that is supplying my daughters PC (upstairs in her bedroom) with wireless Internet. What I need to do is access the wireless access point configuration setup from my PC, the reason for this is that I have an agreement with 4 of my neighbors, so they can also have wireless internet (via a roof antenna I have). I need to access the “set up” in the WAP from my main PC so I can set up the WEP and see how much they are consuming but I cant get into the set up of the WAP. The router has a different IP from the WAP, I can access the routers “set up” no problem but not the WAP

Thanks
