Hello all.. I hope you can help!

I got broadband on friday (yippie!) and I'm connecting my two pc's to the net and each other via the DG834G.
the problem is that the wireless pci card I bought for one of the computers doesnt seem to work. It connects at "excellent" speed but then when I try to access the internet or the other computer nothing happens... I have tried pinging the router using the pci card too, but no dice.
After what may be a set amount of time (around 2 mins) the connection is dropped. My other computer upstairs is running though an ethernet card and has no problems whatsoever, and when I connect to the router on THIS computer via the ethernet card I also have no trouble (in fact I am posting this message on the computer with the faulty wireless card).
if anyone can shed some light on this problem I'd be greatly appreciative thanks

P.S

I have heard about a firmware upgrade for the DG834G and woundered if anybody belived this may help and also what things to be carefull of, as I have heard many stories of people having trouble with the upgrades...

Welcome to the forum. One very typical problem with a wireless PCI adaptor being placed in a computer with a wired adaptor as well is an IRQ conlfict between the two. Not knowing your OS, but you should check the device manager to see if there are any problems.

Did you check the IRQ setting in system information? If both are using the same IRQ, try disabling one in the device manager and see if that helps.

yep... they are both different so no conflicts there

OK, if you feel the configuration settings are correct, try using a different PCI slot. Or try using the card in the other computer if possible. Just trying to see if it is the card or computer where the trouble lies.

If none of this helps, I would suspect the adaptor and since it sounds like it is new, I would try and replace it.

right... I'll slap it in a different PCI slot and see what happens....

do you think its worth upgrading the firmware in my router before sending the card back?

BUT I cannot access the other computer on my network... :( wep isnt on... and I haven't got any of the wireless security on (I live in the middle of knowhere so nobody is gonna start hackin) so what do you recon the problem is?

Just to catch up, you are able to access the internet with both computers? You switched a channel and it works, strange? have you ever been able to see the other computer? Do you have XP on both computers? Check out this as it will show you how to set up shares on XP.

Perchance do you have a 2.4gHz cordless phone in the house? As you are not near any other possible sources of RF interference, that seems unusual that 10 would work and 11 would not.
