I was wondering if any one has set up wireless backbones for security cameras (CCTV). I am trying to determine the amount of bandwidth that's going to be needed for the cameras to run 10fps. The real hangup I feel is the amount of cameras that are to be installed. Lets say for an example, I have one area that I can place the base stations. (Cisco 1400's), surrounding this area are the cameras that will need the wireless backbone. The number is over 40 cameras. I am limited to 4 channels in the 5.8. I can vertically and horizontally polarize each link but I fear I will not be able to provide the bandwidth needed to that many cameras using a multipoint solution. All the cameras are within a mile of the base stations. I know you will need alot more info but this is a start. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Is there any way you can convert the 10fps to a digital equivalent. Do the camera specs say anything about that. It would help us figure out the system. Also I have linked a thread that talks about cameras, but more importantly it has two people that know
about this sort of thing. You could PM FlaWireless or hmhc. They might respond to the thread as well. But I do not know the urgency of the project.

With the digital information we also can work on the wireless system. If possible it would help to supply some kind of image of the physical area you are talking about as well.

thanks for the reply. Unfortunatly time is not on our side. We were brought in to this project at the last minute. We are not even able to survey the area. Which is a problem. We have to use 5.8 due to existing 2.4 equipment. I am getting the specs of the cameras then hopefully we can figure out the hard numbers. I know the are not IP cameras so there is a third party hardware device that is going to be used to convert to IP. There are alot of unknowns at this point. I will post again once I have the specs and the layout of the area. Thanks again.
