i just purchased an hp 2510 which i'm having trouble setting up in infrastructure mode. one suggestion has been to use it in ad-hoc mode. however, i'm not sure if that will somehow interfere with my using my wlan in infrastructure mode. i don't want to have to change setting just to print, if that's required, or not be able to print from web pages, if they can't co-exist. any comments of whether there would be issues with this? thanks in advance.

You are really going to have to give a bunch more information than you have. I personally have no idea as to what you want or are trying to solve. If you have an existing network, please describe it and the more detail you have to offer the easier it will be to help. Check out the threads on this site for examples of how much detail is needed.

If you have an access point or a router, your system will be in infrastructure and the clients will also have to be infrastructure. No real way around that.

i have a wireless lan set up that include a router (netgear) and an access point (linksys). they are currently set up in infrastructure, with wep encryption. i think you answered my question, however. it sounds like i cannot connect to the access point in infrastructure mode and at the same time use my printer in ad hoc mode. am i missing something?

Why do you have to access the printer in ad hoc mode. Where is the printer? Is it being shared on one of the computers? If it is already attached to a computer, all you have to do is share it and then you will get access through the network by all the other computers. You do not need to access that computer directly.
