Hey all,

I am sharing the signal off of my brothers router in the basement. I bought a DWL-650M wireless card from D-link for my laptop. Now, i installed it according to the directions. After that the connection was made. There was good signal strength (2mps) and the little "D" was shoing green and all that. However, it was going real slow. Then all of the sudden, i noticed that the "received" packets in the network properties box were geetting higher quicker -- at that time the browsing was a lot faster. Now all of the sudden, i can connect, but the received bytes stay at 0. there is no WEP here.... I am totally confused. Please advise if you can from this lack of details...lol.

Thanks,

M

Welcome to the forum. The brother and his router, is he linked via wireless or wired connection? Is his still working or is he experiencing the same problem? What is the router, model and if the firmware is up to date? What operating system are you using?
2mbps is not a real good link, so you are probably experiencing some signal strength issues. But that does not explain what is happening to you.

I would be curious to know if you are still sure that you are linking to his router and not another wireless node in the same vicinity? It almost sounds like you dis-associated with his router because of the weak signal strength, and found another one that is stronger. But you are not able to associate because of wrong SSID or enabled WEP. But you will have to tell if this is even possible in your location.

To me the other possible issue is a hardware problem with either the wireless pc card or the router. You checking out your brother's connection will help answer part of that. Infant mortality in electronic devices is not all that uncommon.
