Hi all, I am trying to connect two residences together with AP's one as AP and one as AP Client, and altough I can get a signal sometimes (the residences are about 200m away from eachother)
I was wondering if reducing the transfer rate down to 1Mbps will increase the signal strength?

Also, although my access point do not have removable antennas, the do have two 2db antennas Soldered via Cable to the AP's main board, can i remove one or both of these and solder a high powered antenna to it (like a 7db or 18db antenna)

Thankyou all so much for your time!

Welcome to the forum. Do not know the model/make of the AP's, it is just a guess. But in most cases the bandwidth speed is automatically adjusted to deal with the signal strength. Lowering it to 1mbs maybe of some help, but that will in most cases give you very low throughput bandwidth of only .5mbs.

Hacking the antennas and their coaxial lead is an option. First, are the AP's just single purpose? What I mean is does the one AP acting as an AP service any other clients? If not one simple way to double the power is to make some of these reflectors. They work very well, but will increase the directivity of the signal. That is why it is important to know if that is a problem or not.

Thankyou, I have seen this page before but couldn't find it again! No longer do I have intermittent connection, it has doubled the power!!!

Cheers!:D
