Phoenix 03-24-2004, 11:57 AM The committee is still duking it out. There are two main proposals and neither has enough support yet to go forward. The standard is most likely to be MIMO (multiple in / multiple out). In that case there will be 2 - 4 tranceivers operating at the same time on different channels at the same time. Compare that to the current method of a single tranceiver and a single channel and you can see that 802.11n radios are likely to be 2-4 times as expensive as 802.11g or 802.11a radios. RiDDeyZZ 03-26-2004, 08:14 PM Maybe I'm nieve on the subject but isn't the lack of channels going to be a major problem with 802.11b very soon? The fact that because its 2.4ghz we are limited to pretty much only using channels 1,6,11...which down the road(conceivably soon) will be a major bottleneck for wireless broadband. This is the first place I have read about 802.11n, and if I can have up to 4 tranceivers on each usable channel...then I just made a huge step from 3 possible tranceivers to a dozen. Am I wrong in thinkin paying a little bit extra for a far superior product...its twice as fast(or 10x) as fast as whats out there...plus it can be used way more widely. Does anybody know what the range is gonna be like...long and weak like 11b or short and fast like 11g? Long and a fast transfer rate right? RIGHT!? Phoenix 03-29-2004, 11:53 AM Each of the 4 tranceivers will be on a different channel, not all 4 on one channel (as far as I know). It's still early yet on this standard. Don't expect products out until late 2005. wi-fiplanet.com
