Hi there, i am having some problems with two ORINOCO AP-500 (latest firmware on the APs ) set up in an office serving 15 users, some with silver others with gold cards some are PCMCIA some are USB CLIENTS. The clients have Win98 and some laptops with W2KPro and XP.
The server is Windows NT 4.0 is the domain controller and it is connected to the APs using UTP cable and a CISCO switch, everybody else uses wireless cards.
The two APs are separated 15 to 17 meters from each other and when i was dong tests with a Laptop i was able to roam between them at 11mbit/s ( i did this installation 2 months ago ) right now the problem is that sometimes users connect at 5.5mbit/s other times at 11mbit/s and they loose conectivity within network neighborhood (all the users are static, they do not move from there cubicles ) they can not browse for other computers, there is a printer attached to one of the machines with a USB client acting as a print server and suddenly they just canīt find the printer. i donīt know what to do because the monitor shows noise levels are minimum, both APs are accesible from the monitor ( this means it recognizes them ) any ideas ?
THANKS.

Do the users that connect to the same AP still have network browisng issues, or is it between users on different APs?

Thanks for the reply.

Sometimes users from AP1 donīt see anybody from AP2 and i donīt know why this happens because they have the same network name.
Thanks.

Try enabling Netbios on users' machines.

You mentioned some of your computers have Win98. I have had similar problems with wireless clients and Win98 first edition, especially USB wireless clients (loss of connectivity as well as computer lock-ups). I have Orinoco (Lucent), Linksys, and Gigafast USB Clients. I believe Linksys states they requires Win98SE or above for thier USB Clients (though they were the most compatable with Win98 first edition. The Orinoco and Gigafast worked terribly with Win98 first edition.

I upgraded some of the computers on my wireless network to Win98 SE (Second Edition) and some to Windows 2000. The Win98 SE computers seem to run pretty well though I still do have an occational problem. The windows 2000 computer are rock solid with respect to the wireless network. Hope this helps. Good luck.
