This forum seems active but very limited. Those who are better informed ought to consider writing some basic WiFi security FAQs, that way we don't have to keep reinventing the wheel everytime a n00b hits the forums and wants to know how to secure his WAP. I'd volunteer but I'm a WiFi n00b myself. My gig is packetsniffing but that's a different thread or forum entirely. Just wanted to intro myself to the group. Let's get this place populated with more members!
Welcome to the forum. Interesting thread, just to make sure have you checked out the tutorial section? There are several authors actively contributing to it. And they are considered some of the foremost authorities on the subject. Just a thought.
Also please do not take this the wrong way, we are a somewhat different forum. No one is a n00b here, all questions should be accepted within the spirit of learning. The reason for that, is using a forum is a new experience to many. It usually is better to point to existing threads rather than flaming the person for not looking.
Also packet sniffing is a valid subject here and a very interesting one. If you are new to wireless, you will find it a fun challenge to sniff the RF in the air. It is quite a bit different and more involved. What are your interests in that area?

Generic sniffing, mostly. Looking for bad packets on the network and other miscellaneous suspicious traffic, etc.
My main interest in WiFi sniffing is to learn how to exploit the wireless connection first then I'll be in a much better position to protect it. The best defense is a good offense - if you know how the black hats think then you can protect against attacks. I foresee WiFi taking off and an ocean of users who have no idea their neighbors are on their networks and/or intercepting their traffic.
Depending on your bent. You have the choice of AirSnort, if you are a Linux fan. And there are several Windows based programs but they are shareware and not cheap. The one I use and seem to prefer right now is CommView for Wi-Fi. It does it all, but runs about $500 US.
If you have not tried wirless sniffing you might be surprised as more and more nodes are getting the wakeup call and encrypting their traffic. With WPA and 802.11i coming sniffing might be just looking at a bunch of encrypted frames.
