I have just installed a new D-Link dwl-1000ap access point. I cannot see it from my wireless card in another room.

How its connected: Cable modem to hub (standard 5 port) then to access point.

Do I actually need another ip address from my service provider?

My cable modem gets ips dynamically from their dhcp.

Please help.

I'd like to do this without paying for another ip. ;-)
but if I have to, I will-just trying to save a buck.

Noble,

First and foremost, make sure that you are getting a solid signal from your ap. You should get a good signal even if no IP is being assigned to you. If you do have a good signal, then you may need either an additional IP from your ISP, or replace your AP with an AP/Router which segments your network to use one IP address from your ISP. If you do not have a good signal, you should try to move your computer closer to the AP and see if you can get an IP that way.

If you can't see the access point from the user device, I'm assuming you mean that their is no access point signal seen by the radio NIC. If that's the case, then be sure the SSID of the radio NIC is set to the same SSID as the access point. You should see a connection with the access point through the radio NIC regardless of whether the IP addresses are set properly.
