Does anyone know of a good source for WLAN case studies?
I'm especially interested in hearing about unique WLAN applications, but I know that others may want some descriptions of the more common applications as well.

Jim,
Have you tried some of the wireless freenet sites? I am almost certain that there is a case-studyesque description of how NYC wireless hooked up New York's Bryant Park, check their site: www.nycwireless.net; Many of volunteers write up some of their experiences to get recognition so that they can point to it as a reference.

Thanks!
This is the first park that I've seen go wireless. It makes sense in a city like NYC for people during lunch, etc.
Anyone else out there know of any unique WLAN apps?

We are planning on providing marina (European) based Internet access via 802.11b. I would be happy to provide an insight into the implementation.

I'm an avid sailer, and marinas are a great place for wireless LAN access.
I'm not much of a camper, but RV (recreational vehicle) parks could also attract a few more customers if they offer wireless LAN access. Anyone know RV parks that implement wireless LANs?
Any other unique WLAN applications that you know of?
Thanks!

I am thinking of sharing a DSL connection with other residents in my apartment building using 802.11b. The primary reason is to share the cost of the DSL/broadband subscription.
Would that be like creating a subnet and giving access to anyone with a client card? How about authentication when each user wants to maintain privacy of their PC?
Any ideas on that?

Each user should implement firewall protection to ensure that neighbors can't access files and applications from their PCs.
You can define a subnet and use DHCP to hand out the IP addresses.
To ensure only specific neighbors are able to use the wireless DSL service, you'll need a way to provide access control. There are several companies offering stand-alone stand alone (http://www.80211-planet.com/tutorials/article/0,4000,10724_1380911,00.html). Some of the vendors (e.g., Avaya) offer access control mechanisms within their access points.
I hope that helps. Anyone else have some ideas?
