Hi,

I just wanted to enquire about the roaming aspect in calls made using VoIP over WiFi networks.

I am concerned if the VoIP call made over WiFi will continue to operate if a user moves from the coverage zone of one Access Point to the other Access Point.

I know that the disassociation/re-assosiation process occurs when one moves from one Access point to another. Does the VoIP call continue to be maintained in such cases?

Thanks for your responses

If roaming is required it takes a little more effort to do it seamlessly. Dis-association with a packet network will appear somewhat bumpy with VOIP unless there is equipment in place to poll the strongest signal and facilitate the transfer between AP's.

Cisco has a method/firmware that will allow it to attempt just that. I have had no experience with that approach. There is a very knowledgeable person in the Cisco realm that hopefully will see the post or you could PM him. oshea85 is his name.

I have used the other approach of using an enterprise wireless gateway to achieve seamless roaming as it is a device that is tasked with doing just that. Along with many other management capabilities.
