Question on wireless

Can somebody answer my question as below ?

1, What is softband? Is it some kind of boardband standard?

2, What is Backoff system?

3, What is the different between Access point and Nic? Both of them able to transmit and receive data. Can I build network between two NIC, that is without access point?

4, What is linecard?

Softband sounds like the software radio technology. Backoff is a method used to resolve access conflicts. Each station picks a backoff number that is used to determine before trying another access.

You can indeed build a wireless network between NICs if all are set to "Ad Hoc" mode. If an access point is used, the NICs would be set to "Infrasctructure."
