Hi Guys,

I need your advice. I live on the top of a large hill and have clear line of sight on pretty much everything,my friend lives 2 miles away (approx) in the next town. We wanted to know whether it would be possible to buy any hardware that could extend the reach of 802.11b?? Is it possible to get a signal this far? I was reading something about pringles tins and they can extend the reach for up to 10miles?

I know this sounds like a really crazy thing to do but would it be possible?

:D

Yes, you can accomplish this with 802.11b, it is called wireless bridging. basically you will need 2 wireless bridges I recommend cisco 350 and 2 high gain antenna (yagi). you must also have a clean line of site.

This should be no problem. You need 2 Antennas (Yagi, maybe the Pringels will work. Try it. :) ) and 2 WLAN Cards (or APīs). Iīve tested it with 2 Orinoco Silver Cards and a self made tin can - Sat-Dish Antenna over 1 KM. Its easy to construct and works very well.
