Hello, I was just wondering if the following setup would work:

I have a wired network in a location in which DSL is not avalible, I also have another computer about 1/4 mile away... I can get broadband in this location... I am planning on getting DSL in the one location, putting a WiFi card that will accept an external antenna in that computer, and running it to a Yagi on the roof of the building... at the other location, I would have another yagi that I would connect to an access point which would run into a router and then into my switch... would this work? (there are some trees and possibly a house in between the two locations :-/)

Thankyou in advance for any advice you can give me, it is much appreciated :)

First things first, there are definitely ways you can do this, they just may or may not include Wi-Fi. Unserstand that Wi-Fi is *NOT* a line of site thing - it is based on radio waves.

There are a lot of devices that :
a) Support external Antennae
b) Can 'bridge' two networks.

Generally speaking, these are the higher-end products (i.e. were looking at a Cisco outdoor-rated network bridge and not a $150 Linksys/D-Link home wireless ap). Essentially, two APs in Bridge mode can use a wireless lan to tie together two wired networks.

1/4 of a mile is roughly 13-1400 ft, which is well within the range of most high-end wireless devices (I believe most have a theoretical range of ~1000 ft).
