Proximity issues

I have had several instances of wireless laptops losing connection while in close proximity to others connected to the same access point. Also, in an office setting, I had major connection issues when we had several connections in a small office connecting to the same access point. This is not one instance, but several, including my home and two offices.

Is there anyone who has seen this, and what the issue may be?

I am using channel 1, 6 or 10 in most cases.

Enable CTS on the AP and set the preamble to short on both the access points and in the driver settings for the wireless nic's.
This should help a good bit with the connections dropping, however it will deffinately slow the connections down a bit, unless your doing large local file copies you'll never notice it though.
